Time for a third Party

We need a third party here in Clark County. Not a Tea Party (a throwback to fascism), but a new Progressive voice that can find commonality with the best of the "Left" and "Right" . I propose the Progressives of Clark County. I just visited the website of ProgressiveDane. org They are well organized and a good role model for a third way to move us forward, and solve our problems holistically. Fostering more local self reliance in this post peak-oil era is always a good idea. I think the progressives could use the Transition USA ideas and framework to create jobs, micro enterprise, and move more quickly to a more green and equitable society.

In other words, making the world work fairly and accountably for all!

Three Keys to my Campaign

There are three key values that are the core to my public life: Accountability, Integrity, and Fairness. This is how I define them:
Accountability means public institutions are open and have to listen (and respond) to the public, unlike private organizations. This is one reason I support public schools more than charter schools. Also why I trust the government more than private corporations.

Integrity means tell the truth about policies, practices, and my beliefs. It also means being true to myself as well as all stakeholders.

Fairness means having a truly level playing field for all people, and also considering the impact of our actions on future generations and the rest of Creation. for example, I strongly oppose giving tax giveaways to corporations to induce (seduce) them into moving from one state/region to another. governments always give up more than they gain, however measured. This gives some companies an unfair advantage at the expense (usually) of local, family-owned businesses.

1Sky.org

Just became a Precinct Captain for 1sky.org, a national climate change action organization. Check it out, and join my team, Camas Greenteam. We the people must be the change, not wait for "our leaders" to do it. Talk to me about what we can do here and now to change the direction of our economic recovery to create more local living wage jobs, small businesses, and non-profits, that benefit citizens more equitably and take us beyond Peak Oil to a better world.

Check out Buy Local Clark County, and join to make this economy work better for people, instead of only for banks and large corporations.

Lets change the debate in Clark County

I think we need more diverse ideas and candidates here, and one way to do this is making Clark County a home rule county. This will allow citizens to put initiatives on the ballot, for expanding the number of commissioners, among other things. Think this would help revitalize citizen participation. My main focus has been creating a local, sustainable, equitable economy that works to the benefit of all citizens, those here today as well as the future. My granddaughter Delilah Rose is 3 years old, and I just keep asking myself, what will the world look like when she is my age?

We need to hear the ideas and voices of all of us here in order to have a county that works for all of us, not just those with more money, political connections, or a newspaper column.

Here's to all of our grandchildren, and their grandchildren
Let's make the world a better place

Caucus was Amazing!

I just got finished with caucus in Camas. There were at least 500 people there! The place was packed! The impassioned speeches from my neighbors in support of Barack Obama (my candidate of choice) were sincere and from the heart, and many told me they had not felt this much emotion since Kennedy was President. In fact one guy said he was a lifelong Republican, and he is voting for Obama, because we need a real change of direction in America! I helped craft a resolution to change the voting to 50/50 Primary/Caucus, so every vote really counts. As a very liberal Democrat, I really resonate with Obama's message of bringing all of us together, and doing whats right. Our precinct went 6/2/2 Obama/Clinton/undecided, by the way. I LOVE the democratic process! Talk to you soon...

Why You want to Support Me

I am a lifelong Democrat, and promise to always listen respectfully to you. Call me a Progressive, "Green", or just a Liberal, they all fit! I can find consensus with even Christian Conservatives. Some key values: people before corporations(they are NOT people), local small business before big boxes, equity and justice for all people, stopping human caused climate change, remembering we are all one. I will work hard for you! Thank You!!
